Question : Modernisation of Aerodromes

(a) whether the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has entered into any agreement with the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to develop a road map for modernisation of aerodromes in the country and if so, the details thereof; and

(b) the details of further development programmes, if any, to be implemented in this regard?

(a) to (b) A statement is laid on the table of the House.

Statement referred in reply to Part (a) to (b) of the Lok Sabha starred question no 461 regarding "Modernisation of Aerodromes" to be answered on 25.07.19; (a): Airports Authority of India (AAI) has entered into an agreement on 04th June, 2019 with United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to develop a comprehensive Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) roadmap for next 10 years. Under financial grant from USTDA, M/s. Boeing will carry out the study for which AAI and M/s. Boeing have entered into a separate technical assistance agreement.;; The objective of the agreement is to develop a roadmap for AAI which will be used as guidance in the modernization of the Indian National Airspace System (NAS) based on global and local best practices to optimally utilize airspace capacity, enhance communications and invest in navigation, surveillance and air traffic management. (b) The study will be carried out by M/s. Boeing, USA in consultation with all stakeholders such as Airlines, Airport Operators, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and AAI. The study will be completed by January 2021. A Technical Working Group (TWG) of AAI, DGCA, other stakeholders such as Airlines and Airport Operators has been formed to work closely with subject matter experts from M/s. Boeing during the course of the project.;; Under the aegis of USTDA, AAI has signed an agreement with M/s Landrum & Brown on 11.09.2017 for preparing a master plan for developing a cost effective way to add capacity to meet future traffic demand at Kolkata and Lucknow Airport.
