Question : Spreading of Diseases due to Flood

a) the details of proliferation of diseases caused due to floods along with the number of such cases reported due to such diseases, State/UT-wise;
b) whether any special scheme has been formulated by the Government for the treatment of people suffering from the fatal diseases spread due to floods, if so, the details thereof;
c) whether the Government has taken measures for prevention of these fatal diseases spreading due to flood and to organize special medical relief camp for the treatment of people suffering from such diseases, State/ UT-wise particularly Bihar; and
d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d) Ministry of Health & FW keeps a close watch over public health impact of all disasters including floods. Health is a State subject, requisite technical and logistic assistance is provided to States/UTs to mitigate the health impact of disasters.

Government of India through Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) undertaken detection and monitoring of outbreaks due to epidemic prone diseases. Weekly data on morbidity from epidemic prone diseases is collected and analyzed to detect disease outbreaks including outbreaks occurring during floods, which is responded by Districts/States Rapid Response Teams (RRTs).

The outbreak prone diseases during floods which are monitored include Acute Diarrheal Diseases, Enteric (Typhoid) fever, Cholera, Bacillary Dysentery, Viral Hepatitis, Malaria, Measles and Snake Bites.
