Question : Technical Institutes

(a) the number of technical institutes approved in the country by All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE) during the last three years and the State-wise details
thereof;
(b) the number of technical institutes out of these which have not adhered to the rules
laid down by the said council during the last three years;
(c) the number of technical institutes functioning in the country at present which have
been approved by AICTE;
(d) the preventive mechanism put in place by the Government to check any type of
malpractice while sanctioning approval to technical institutes by the said council;
and
(e) the number of corruption cases coming to the notice of the Government under
the said preventive system during the last three years and the action taken by the
Government in this regard?

(a) to (c): A total of 10423 technical institutes have been approved by All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE) during the academic year 2018-19. The State-wise details of
technical institutes approved by AICTE during the last three academic years is at Annexure-1
and the details of the technical institutes, who have not adhered to the rules laid down by the
AICTE during the last three years is at Annexure-2.
(d) and (e): Approval is granted by AICTE to new institutions and also to the existing
institutions for extension, who apply and fulfill the norms and standards as prescribed in
Approval Process Handbook (APH), published by AICTE every year. A total of 167
complaints against various Institutes/Colleges have been received during the last three years
for violation of norms and standards of AICTE. Accordingly, penal action has been taken
against these erring institutes by AICTE as per provisions of the APH.
