Question : Investment in Textile Industry

(a) the year-wise details of total amounts of funds invested in the textile industry, handloom and handicraft industry in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal separately during the last three years;

(b) the number of textile industries functioning there at present; and

(c) the number of sick industries that have been considered for revival in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal during the last three years and the steps taken by Government to revive them again?

(a): The details of investment in the textile industry, handloom and handicraft industry in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are at Annexure.

(b): The details of number of textile industry/mills functioning in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal are given below:

Apart from above a total of 24,100 handloom weavers in Madhya Pradesh and 6,14,650 handloom weavers in West Bengal have been benefitted during the period 2018-19 to 2020-21. Also, a total of 67,799 and 2,42,887 artisans have been benefitted in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal respectively till now.

(c): There is no specific scheme for the revival of the closed and sick spinning mills across the country. However, Government is focusing on fresh investment by industry in this sector for expansion of competitive manufacturing capacity. To this objective Government is implementing various schemes viz the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (A-TUFS), Power-Tex, SITP, Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA), SAMARTH- The Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector, Jute (ICARE- Improved Cultivation and Advanced Retting Exercise), Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS), Silk Samagra, National Handloom Development Programme, National Handicraft Development Programme, Integrated Wool Development Programme (IWDP), Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Rebate of State and central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL), National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM) etc. catering exclusively for promotion and development of textile sector in the country.
