Question : RAIL TICKET BOOKING THROUGH INTERNET

(a) whether rail ticket booking has been started through internet in select cities;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the response thereto;

(c) whether this system is being extended to other cities; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) : Yes, Sir.

(b) : The facility of issue of rail tickets through internet was introduced on 3.8.2002. As on 24.7.2003, this facility is available in 67 cities. The names of these cities is given in Appendix-A. As regard public response to the facility, during peak demand month of April 2003, as many as, 53,171 tickets were booked through internet.

(c) & (d) : Yes, Sir. The facility is being extended continuously to more and more cities in the country. There is a plan to extend this facility to Shillong, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Meerut, Bareilly, Izatnagar, Kota, Gwalior, Mathura, Karnal, Aligarh and Yamunanagar, shortly.
