Question : WORLD BANK STUDY ON INDIA`S POWER SECTOR POLICIES



(a) whether the World Bank has expressed willingness to conduct study on India`s power sector policies;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) the details of the guidelines issued in this regard by the World Bank during the last three years; and

(d) the extent to which the Government have implemented those guidelines?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. 411 TO BE ANSWERED IN THE LOK SABHA ON 18.12.2000 REGARDING WORLD BANK STUDY ON INDIA`S POWER SECTOR POLICIES.


(a) & (b): No proposal has been received from the World Bank for conducting a study on India`s power sector policies.

(c) & (d): The World Bank does not issue any guidelines in regard to India`s power sector policies. They generally lay down covenants at the time of signing the loan agreements with the borrowing/project implementing agencies for grant of loan for a particular power project/scheme. The Bank has its own internal operational procedures, policies and guidelines.
