Question : Electrification of Villages

(a) the total number of villages electrified under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), State/UT-wise;

(b) the number of villages yet to be electrified, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether any targets have been fixed for electrification of villages during the current financial year;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps being taken to achieve the targets, State/ UT-wise; and

(e) whether households belonging to BPL and SC and ST categories are being given electricity connection under DDUGJY and if so, the details thereof for the last two years, State/UT-wise?

STATEMENT

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.261 TO BE ANSWERED IN THE LOK SABHA ON 04.08.2016 REGARDING ELECTRIFICATION OF VILLAGES.

(a) : Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) was launched in December, 2014. As reported by the States, 9,481 un-electrified villages have been electrified under DDUGJY including Rural Electrification component. The State-wise details are given at Annexure-I.

(b) : As reported by the States, there were 18,452 un-electrified census villages in the country, as on 01.04.2015. Out of these villages, 9,126 un-electrified villages are yet to be electrified as on 31.07.2016. The details are given at Annexure-II.

(c) & (d) : 8,360 villages are targeted for electrification during the current financial year. The State-wise details are given at Annexure-III. For electrification of all the villages, a time bound implementation schedule has been drawn in consultation with the States. Electrification process has been divided into 12 milestones and they are monitored at multiple levels including Ministry of Power (MOP), States and DISCOMs. MOP reviews the situation every month in Review, Planning & Monitoring (RPM) meeting and takes proactive actions to handhold States for completing the target.

(e) : Under DDUGJY, free electricity connections to 7,59,377 and 14,39,144 Below Poverty Line (BPL) households have been released during the years 2014-15 & 2015-16 respectively including BPL households of SC/ST categories. The State-wise details are given at Annexure-IV.
