Question : FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN DEVELOPING TOURIST SPOTS



(a) whether the Government has any proposal to attract foreign investment in tourism sector under the `Make in India` campaign;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details of tourist places developed in the country so far with foreign direct investment?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. The Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ campaign launched recently provides opportunities for investments including foreign investments in the following sectors:

i. Setting up of tour operation and travel agencies.

ii. Hotels, timeshare resorts, convention centers, motels, heritage hotels, etc.

iii. Infrastructure for Cruise tourism, Eco tourism and Medical tourism.

Presently Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy offers the following incentives:

(i) 100% FDI is allowed under automatic route in tourism and hospitality, subject to applicable regulations and laws.

(ii) 100% FDI allowed in tourism construction projects, including the development of hotels, resorts and recreational facilities.

(c): No proposal under the ‘Make in India’ campaign has been received in the Ministry of Tourism for development of tourist places with Foreign Direct Investment.
