Question : Water Supply in Cities

Will the Minister Of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state :

(a) whether the loan availed from the Asian Development Bank, exclusively for the North Eastern Region has been properly utilised in improving water supply, solid waste management and sanitation in the cities of Agartala and Aizawl;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to extend such projects in a dedicated manner to other towns and if so, the towns/cities identified in this regard; and

(d) the time by which these projects are likely to be completed?

(a & b): Yes Madam. Government is implementing North Eastern Region Urban Development Programme (NERUDP) for 5 cities of North Eastern States viz. Agartala (Tripura), Aizawl (Mizoram), Gangtok (Sikkim), Kohima (Nagaland), and Shillong (Meghalaya). Funds are provided for sectors such as water, sewage, sanitation, solid waste management, etc. The total loan by Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the two states of Tripura and Mizoram is $ 41.97 million for Agartala (Tripura) and $ 85.09 million for Aizawl (Mizoram). A list of projects taken under the programme for these cities is at Annex - I

(c): Currently, there is no proposal to extend this programme to take up projects in other towns in the North Eastern Region.

(d): The scheduled time period of completion of this programme is upto June, 2019.
