Question : COMPENSATION TO VICTIMS OF MUMBAI TRAIN BOMB BLAST



(a) the details of applications received from victims of Mumbai train bomb blast for compensation claims before Railway Claims Tribunal and details of cases disposed off so far alongwith amount of compensation given to them;

(b) whether the cases of compensation claim in this regard are still lying pending in Railway Claims Tribunal;

(c) if so, the details thereof alongwith the reasons thereof;

(d) the time by which the pending cases are likely to be settled; and

(e) the number of dependents of deceased who have been given jobs and number of pending cases in this regard?

(a) 493 accident claims compensation cases have been filed in the Railway Claims Tribunal. Out of which 174 cases have been disposed off and an amount of Rs.6,55,60,000/- has been awarded to claimants.

(b)&(c) 319 cases are pending. Out of which 11 no. of death cases which have been recently filed and are pending for want of necessary documentation by the petitioners/respondents. 308 no. of injury cases are pending. Before adjudication of the injury cases, a Medical Board has been constituted to examine each case as per the directions of the Tribunal.

(d) No time frame can be prescribed for disposal of cases as the Railway Claims Tribunal is a quasi-judicial body.

(e) A total of 134 applications have been received for appointment, from dependents of deceased persons. Out of which, 101 have been approved for appointment by General Manager/Western Railway and 33 cases are pending.
