Question : Station Development in Maharashtra and Odisha

(a) whether Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) has been developing railway stations in various zones in the country;

(b) if so, the details and the criteria fixed for selection of railway stations for development by IRSDC;

(c) whether the Government has announced some railway stations to be taken up for development in Maharashtra as well as Paralakhemundi and Brahmapur railway stations in Odisha;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) the details of the funds allocated, released and utilized so far for the development of these railway stations;

(f) whether there has been a demand for declaring Khadki Railway Station in Pune and Brahmapur railway station in Odisha as terminating and originating points for various destinations of the country; and

(g) if so, the details thereof and the action so far taken by the Railways in this regard?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (g) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1838 BY SHRI GIRISH BHALCHANDRA BAPAT, SHRI RAHUL RAMESH SHEWALE, SHRI CHANDRA SEKHAR SAHU AND DR. PRITAM GOPINATHRAO MUNDE TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 08.12.2021 REGARDING STATION DEVELOPMENT IN MAHARASHTRA AND ODISHA
(a) to (e): Ministry of Railways through various agencies is undertaking techno-economic feasibility studies of Railway stations. Based on the outcome of these feasibility studies, stations are taken up for development in phases, especially the stations located in major cities and important tourist destinations. Rani Kamlapati Railway Station and Gandhinagar Capital (Gujarat) Railway Station have been commissioned and rest of the stations are at various stages of studies / development. Rani Kamlapati Railway Station has been developed through Public Private Partnership with no cost to Railways and Gandhinagar Capital (Gujarat) Railway Station has been developed through equity participation of Government of Gujarat and Ministry of Railways.
However, recently Government has given ‘in principle’ approval for closure of Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC). The projects undertaken by IRSDC shall be handed over to respective Zonal Railways and Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) for further development.
The government has taken up some Railway stations in the States of Maharashtra and Odisha for techno-economic feasibility studies, however, presently Paralakhemundi and Brahmapur railway stations are not part of the studies.
(f) & (g): A proposal regarding development of Khadki Railway Station as a Terminal Station has been received from Shri Girish Bhalchandra Bapat, Hon’ble Member of Parliament/Lok Sabha. Feasibility of the proposal is being examined by Zonal Railway. Regarding Brahmapur railway station, it is stated that no such demand for developing Brahmapur railway station as Terminal Station has been received.
