Question : Technical Institutes of Excellence


(a) the progress made to establish a number of new engineering colleges of standard
quality (technical and excellence) as part of "Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan
(RUSA); and
(b) whether the Government has synergised vocational education within higher
education under RUSA and if so, the details thereof along with the details of the
allocated budget for building these vocational training institutes and indicate the number
of such institutes that are coming up during the year 2017?

(a) : Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha
Abhiyan (RUSA) grants are provided under component 6 of the Scheme for establishing
new colleges (Professional and Technical). A total of 27 new colleges (Professional
and Technical) have been approved under this component.
(b) :The central grant under component 12 of the Scheme is provided to States for
vocationalisation of Higher Education. This includes strengthening governance,
management and financing for vocational education; developing educational standards
and core curriculum; skill enhancement and upgradation; career planning and
development of career oriented courses. Building new vocational training institutes is
not supported under RUSA. A total of Rs. 82.68 crore has been approved for seven
States as per the details given below:
