Question : PROMOTION OF EMPLOYMENT INTENSIVE SECTOR



(a) whether the Government has taken steps to promote employment-intensive sectors;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to take special policy measures to promote exports of high-employment multipliers including textile and food processing;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): The Government / RBI have announced stimulus packages including the announcements made in the Budget 2009-10 (as given in Annexure) and in the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2009-14 to provide support, particularly to promote employment intensive sectors. Details of FTP 2009-14, have been laid before Parliament and are also available in public domain, on website http://dgft.gov.in.

(c) to (e): Government is closely monitoring the trend in exports growth, particularly for the high employment sectors including Textiles and Food Processing and need based appropriate measures are taken, keeping in view the financial implications. Measures announced for the Textiles and Food Processing sectors in the FTP 2009-14, include providing incentives for supporting market diversification and deepening of various incentive schemes like the Focus Product Scheme, Focus Market Scheme, Market Linked Focus Product Scheme, VKGUY etc.
