Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has conducted research on geriatric diseases;
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether there is any proposal under consideration of the Government to set up a National Institute for Geriatric diseases;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the time by which the said institute is likely to be set up?

(a) & (b): Yes, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has promoted research studies on the geriatric population focusing on age related problems, including, psychiatric disorders in the aged, brain ageing, neurobiochemistry of the aged brain, chronic morbidity profile of the elderly, prevalence of psychiatric morbidity, etc.
(c): No.
(d) & (e): Does not arise.
