(c) the actual quota of edible oil provided to each State during each of the last three years;

(d) whether there is any proposal to increase the edible oil quota; and

(e) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION ( SHRI V. SREENIVASA PRASAD )

(a),(b) & (c): The demand for edible oils for the whole country has been assessed by the Government to be 96.43 lakh MT for the Oil Year 1999-2000 (Nov, 1999 to Oct, 2000) However, state-wise demand for oils has not been assessed.

No State-wise quota for allocation of imported edible oils for the PDS is fixed by the Central Government. Allocation is made on the basis of demand received from the States/UTs for a particular year and after taking into account relevant factors like prices and availability of indigenous edible oils, availability of oil in the Central Pool, past off-take of States/UTs, etc.

A statement showing State-wise demand, allocation and lifting by States/UTs during the last three financial years is enclosed (Annex.I).

(d) There is no proposal at present. During the last year or so, the states have not lifted the quantities allotted, thanks to the comfortable position of open market availability and prices.

(e) Does not arise.
