Question : 5G Services

(a) the time by which 5G services are likely to be launched across the country;

(b) whether BSNL and MTNL are conducting trials to launch 5G services in the country;

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) the details of funds provided to BSNL and MTNL to conduct trials for launch of 5G services; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to sign agreements with Indian and Foreign institutions for 5G services; and

(f) if so, the details thereof along with the number of such institutions?

(a) to (f) A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT TO BE LAID ON THE TABLE OF THE LOK SABHA IN RESPECT OF PARTS (a) TO (f) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 50 FOR 20TH JULY, 2022 REGARDING ‘5G SERVICES’.


(a) Launch of 5G mobile services is likely during 2022-23 by Telecom Service Providers.

(b) & (c) Department of Telecommunications has granted permission to M/s Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited for conducting 5G technology trials with C-DoT.

(d) There is no provision for allocation of any fund for 5G technology trials.

(e) & (f) Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has formulated a collaborative research policy and a framework to build robust partnership with various stakeholders of indigenous 5G ecosystem with focus on local industry and start-ups. C-DoT has set up ‘India 5G Alliance’ which intends to deliver a complete suite of 5G products.
