(a) Yes. Five Indian nationals from West Bengal died in an avalanche in Manang District of Nepal in the second week of October 2014.
(b) The names of the five Indian nationals are given below:
1. Arup Roychowdhury
2. Indranil Ghosh
3. Sunil Kumar Sen
4. Debasis Dey
5. Tathagatha Jana
(c) Embassy of India in Kathmandu actively coordinated with the local authorities for rescue and relief of the Indian nationals caught in avalanche affected areas of Nepal. As a result, twenty one Indian nationals were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families. In addition, five dead bodies were recovered and Mission facilitated transportation of the mortal remains of four of them by air, to Kathmandu, with the help of local authorities and Nepal Army. Mission also issued requisite documents for carrying out post-mortems and transportation of mortal remains of the deceased to India. The fifth dead body was cremated at the site with the consent of family member. Death Registration Certi- ficates in respect of all the five were provided to the relatives of the deceased.
