Question : Updation of Archaeological Survey of India Act- 1958

(a) whether the Government proposes to amend and update the Archaeological Survey of India Act, 1958 to bring it in line with current times as recommended by 15th Finance Commission;

(b) whether the Government plans to introduce private sector participation for up-keep of protected monuments under ASI;

(c) the details of unprotected heritage buildings, monuments, archaeological sites, and historic buildings in India and particularly in Maharashtra;

(d) the steps taken by the Government to enhance coordination and expansion of training in cultural research; and

(e) the details of the amount sanctioned & released under the National Culture Fund (NCF) during the last five years, State-Wise and particularly in Maharashtra?

(c) Information on built heritage and sites all over India are made available on website of National Mission on Monuments & Antiquities (NMMA) and in public domain.

So far 148 unprotected built heritage, monuments, sites have reported from Maharashtra.

(d) The Archaeological Survey of India imparts training under a Post Graduate Diploma in Archaeology programme through its Institute of Archaeology, which is extended to post graduates in Archaeology, History, Anthropology and Geology. The courses content includes aspects related to heritage management, conservation and preservation of monuments.
