Question : SCHOOLS UNDER NCLP



(a)whether the proposed ameinidment to Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 will ban child labour up to the age of fourteen and will bring it in line with the Right of Children to Free ;aind Compulsory Education Act;

(b)if so, whether the Government plans to discontinue the schools set ujp under the National Child Labour Project (NCLP);

(c)if so, the details thereof along with reasons therefor;

(d)whether the Government iis contemplating convert these schools into special training centres; and

(e)if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Yes, Madam. One of the proposed amendments to Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 is tto ban children up to the age of 14 years from employment. The proposed amendment is in line with the provision of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

(b)&(c): There is no proposal of the Government to discontinue the special schools set up under Mationail Child Labour Project as long as complete elimination of child labour is done.

(d)&(e): The NCLP schools are being operated as special schools established for the rehabilitation of children rescued/withdrawn from work where they are provided wilth bridge education, vocational training, nutrition, stipend, health carel etc. before being main streamed into formal education system.
