Question : AUDIT SYSTEM OF DEATH CASES IN GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS



(a) whether death rates in Government hospitals are very high as compared to the other hospitals;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government are aware that in Government hospitals the audit systems of death cases exist on papers only and are not implemented properly;

(d) if so, the reaction of the Government thereon;

(e) whether the Government are considering to make mandatory the medical audit in each death case;

(f) if so, the details thereof;

(g) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(h) the steps taken by the Union Government to fix responsibility in each case of death occur due to the negligence of doctors?

(a)&(b): Mortality data in respect of Non-Government Hospitals are not maintained. However, the gross death rates in Dr. R.M.L. Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital and Kalawati Saran Children Hospital during the last three years are as under:-

In the Central Government Hospitals very serous/critical/referred from other places/Head injury or patients in terminal stages come for treatment since the admission is not refused for any patient.

(c)&(d): In Dr. R.M.L. Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital and Kalawati Saran Children Hospital, the death review/medical audit committees meet regularly to review the death cases. Besides this, death cases are also reviewed in respective departments.
