(a) & (b)Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has not set up any new laboratory in Uttar Pradesh during the last three years. Four CSIR laboratories, namely â CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI); CSIR-Indian
Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR); CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI); and CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) are functioning in Lucknow (UP) at present.
(c) CSIR-CDRI has knowledgebase in the domain of drug discovery and development. The focus is on neglected diseases,
life style diseases, contraceptives and CNS disorders. A drug for liver disorder and a drug for Dyslipidemia is
presently in phase III clinical trial.
CSIR-CIMAP is engaged in R&D on medicinal and aromatic plants. It has established Aroma Biovillages in UP and
commercialized varieties of Artemisia annua and menthol mint, which have made significant impact on the economic
status of the farmers involved.
CSIR-NBRI is focused at R&D for conservation of plants and, providing value addition to plants through development of new varieties of ornamental plants such as gladiolus and chrysanthemum and economic plants like cotton. The Botanic Garden maintained by it is a unique conservatory of important plant varieties.
CSIR-IITR is focused on toxicological research. Its R&D activities and knowledgebase helps regulatory bodies to formulate guidelines for safe use of identified products. It has developed protocols and standards for toxicity leading to identification of toxicity effects of identified chemical entities.
