Question : Disposal of Scrap at Bokaro Steel Plant

(a) whether scrap is not being disposed of in the Bokaro Steel Plant despite the completion of tender for the same rendering hundreds of labourers jobless;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor along with the time by which the disposal process is likely to be completed;

(c) whether the mining mafia has been reportedly active in this plant even in the past forestalling the construction of wall around the plant; and

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the preventive action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a)&(b): The disposal of Scrap in Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) is going through Steel Melting Shop(SMS) route is continued through sources as under:-

(i) Steel skull scrap: BSL is recovering, processing steel skull scrap from old SMS slag dump and also the current generation of SMS slag.

(ii) Maintenance scrap / wear scrap: These scraps across different shops are
collected, processed and supplied to SMS as melting scrap.

(iii) Mill rejection, process generation: These are received at Material Recovery Department (MRD) and disposed to SMS as melting scrap after due processing.

Further, the work of recovery, processing and its disposal from Blast Furnace Slag Dump is done through tendering.

(c) No, Madam.

(d) Question does not arise.
