Question : PRODUCTION EXPORT OF MANGO



(a) the quantity of mango produced, consumed and exported during each of the last three years;

(b) the foreign exchange earned therefrom during the said period;

(c) whether there is any decline in the export of mangoes during the current year;

(d) if so, the loss of revenue reported as a result thereof;

(e) whether the Government propose to constitute Mango Board to promote the production of mangoes; and

(f) if so, the time by which the same is likely to be constituted?

(a)&(b): The available details of production, quantity and value of export and estimated consumption of mangoes during the last three years is given in the statement at Annexure I.

(c)&(d): There was a decline in the quantity of mango exports from India during the year 1999-2000 by 10,780 tonnes as compared to 1998-99. The decrease in value of exports during the period was Rs.759.00 lakhs. The export of mangoes increased to 37,110 tonnes during 2000-01, an increase by 2479 tonnes over 1999-2000. However, the value of exports of mango got reduced to Rs. 6861.00 lakhs

(e)&(f): There is no proposal to constitute a Mango Board at present.
