(a) whether the Railways have decided to use bio-fuel in railway engines;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Railways propose to set up any plant for production of bio-fuel;
(d) if so, the details thereof alongwith cost involved therein; and
(e) the time by which the said plant is likely to be installed?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Blended diesel with 10% Bio diesel has been cleared for use on
Diesel locomotives.
(c)& (d): Yes, Madam. Railways propose initially to set up four Bio diesel plants,
which have been sanctioned at a total cost of Rs. 78.49 crores.
(e): Two bio diesel plants are likely to be installed during the next two years and
balance two plants will be set up subsequently.
