Question : Mining Leases to GMDC

(a) whether the Government of Gujarat has recommended 11 bauxite mining lease proposals for prior approval of the Ministry of Mines in Jamnagar and Kutch districts for relaxation of section 6(1)(b) of MMRD;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by Ministry of Mines in this regard;

(c) whether MD, GMDC and Principal Secretary, Industry and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat have requested the Union Government to expedite the approval of the said mining leases; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which approval is likely to be accorded?

(a) : Yes, 11 bauxite mining lease proposals for mines in Jamnagar and Kutch districts for prior approval of Ministry for relaxation of section 6(1) (b) of the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation (MMRD) Act, 1957 were received in Ministry of Mines.
(b) Details of these 11 proposals given at Annexure-I. These all 11 proposals were returned to the State Government of Gujarat as the subject areas were neither mentioned to be reserved for PSU nor mentioned to be notified for public by the State Government.
(c) Yes, Principal Secretary, Industry and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat has thereafter given additional inputs about the reservation of areas and requested Central Government to expedite its approval for the above bauxite mining leases in favour of GMDC;
(d) The time for taking decision in the matter cannot be specified.
