Answer given by the minister

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region
[Dr. Jitendra Singh]

(a) North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) was launched during 2015-16 primarily for rehabilitation/construction/up-gradation of roads which are important from the perspective of economic development in NER yet remained neglected for long resulting in disuse of these roads. The following projects have been taken up for implementation through the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL):
(i) Upgradation of Doimukh to Harmuti Road (16 Kms) in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam,
(ii) Up-gradation of Tura-Mankachar Road (2.10 Km) in Assam,
(iii) Up-gradation of Saiphai-Bhagabazar Road (16.50 Kms) in Mizoram (replacement of Kawnpui-Bairabi Road), and
(iv) Rehabilitation of Wokha-Merapani-Golaghat Road (66.90 Kms) in Nagaland and Assam.
This scheme for upgradation of critical, but neglected, inter-state roads is now being implemented by NEC.

(b) Rs. 225 crore have already been released to NHIDCL.

(c)&(d) The DPR is likely to be finalized by December, 2016 and thereafter the works will be awarded as per norms. The projects are scheduled to be completed by March, 2018.
