(a) During 2005, the number of cases under Information Technology Act, 2000 increased
to 179 as against 60 and 68 cases reported during 2003 and 2004 respectively. However,
during 2003 to 2005, the number of cases reported under relevant sections of the Indian
Penal Code was 411, 279 and 302 respectively, which showed a mixed trend.
(b): The Central Bureau of Investigation and many State police organisations have computer
forensic facilities which are upgraded from time to time. In addition, all the laboratories of the
Directorate of Forensic Science and Government Examiners of Questioned Documents have
computer forensic facilities. Regular training programmes, workshops, seminars and symposia
for trainers to handle digital crimes are also organised.
