Question : TRAFFIC ON AMBALA-CHANDIGARH ROAD



(a) the volume of traffic on the Ambala-Chandigarh road;

(b) whether the Union Government has decided to widen the said road and make it four lane;

(c) if so, the action taken so far, if any, in the matter;

(d) the reasons for the delay in widening the road; and

(e) the time by when the widening is likely to be taken up and completed?

(a) The average annual daily traffic volume count for Ambala-Dera Bassi section is about 43400 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) and Dera Bassi to Zirakpur (near Chandigarh) section is about 45,300 PCUs.

(b) to (e) The four laning work of Ambala-Zirakpur section of NH –22 has been awarded on BOT basis under National Highway Development Programme- Phase III. The work is scheduled to commence by March 2006.

The period of construction would be 30 months from the date of commencement.
