Question : World Ayurveda Congress

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the ''World Ayurveda Congress'' held by the Government in collaboration with the World Ayurveda Foundation and others during the last three years;

(b) the details of achievements made/ benefits accrued by holding these events;

(c) whether the Government has proposed to organize ''World Ayurveda Congress'' in 2016; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): The then Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India presently Ministry of AYUSH, in collaboration with Government of NCT of New Delhi, World Ayurveda Foundation (WAF) and others had organized only one World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) i.e. 6th World Ayurveda Congress from 7th - 9th Nov. 2014 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in last three years.
The 6th World Ayurveda Congress had 5 plenary sessions, 25 technical sessions in which 204 scientific papers were presented. Besides, there were 3 poster sessions with 259 posters and 3 in-conference symposia.

(b): The event provided an opportunity for 3580 delegates including 120 foreign delegates from 21 countries to interact with more than 225 invited speakers & experts of Ayurveda.

• The Health Ministers from Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and Uzbekistan participated in the event.
• The function was attended by the authorized official representatives from 11 countries.

• Ministers of 10 States i.e. provinces (Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Gujarat Nagaland, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana and Uttarakhand), Ambassadors/High Commissioners, Members of Parliament, MLAs from Delhi, Secretaries and officials from many Central Govt. Departments, Councilors of local bodies participated in the Conference.
• The first Plenary was focused on “Global Perspective on Ayurveda” involving country presentations of 10 foreign countries in which the Ministers/ authorized representatives of 11 countries developed consenses for promoting Ayurveda globally.
• The event brought on board, several Union Ministers as well as Ministries and Departments of Government of India working in the fields of health, tourism, science and technology, research, forestry, education and medical tourism and which could have interface with Ministry of AYUSH for promotion of AYUSH system.
• The International Delegate Assembly had presentation of 20 foreign delegates on Ayurveda related research. The foreign delegates from over 20 countries also discussed various issues related to promotion and practices of Ayurveda as well as import of Ayurveda drugs in those countries.
• The Congress provided a well designed platform to the Ayurveda experts from all over the world to deliberate comprehensively on all important dimensions of Ayurvedic system of medicine in contemporary scenario and meticulously evolve framework and strategies for development of Ayurveda and collaboration amongst the countries.
• The presence of Hon’ble Prime of India at World Ayurveda Congress boosted morale and enthusiasm of Ayurveda practitioners & students and other stakeholders across the globe.
• 6th World Ayurveda Congress focused on holistic development of Ayurveda at National and International levels. It provided confidence to express our solidarity and commitment in steering strategic transformation of Ayurveda sector not only for healthcare purposes of the people but also for socio-economic development and empowerment of communities.

(c) & (d): The Government has not proposed to organize World Ayurveda Congress in 2016. However, Central Sector Schemes of Ministry of AYUSH have provision to support any program event like conference, seminar etc. for propagation of AYUSH system at National and International level.
