Question : LAND DISPUTE BETWEEN INDIA AND BANGLADESH



(a) whether the Government is aware that some areas of Assam are now under possession of Bangladesh due to wrong marking of boundary line and erection of fencing far inside of Indian territory;

(b) if so, whether the Government has inquired into the matter;

(c) if so, the details and the findings thereof; and

(d) the action taken by the Government against the persons/officials found guilty?

(a) to (d): A few patches of Indian land are adversely possessed by Bangladesh since partition. As per Minutes of 4th Joint Boundary Working Group (JBWG) Meeting held at New Delhi in November, 2010, Bangladesh is in adverse possession of land to the extent of 665 acres in Assam sector as per following details:

-	Kalabari, Barolbari, Dhubri-160 acres.
-	Pallathal, Karimganj-360 acres &
-	Naogaon, Karimganj-145 acres.

The above position is not attributed to erection of fence on Indo-Bangladesh border.
