Question : MEETING OF INDO CANADA WORKING GROUP



(a) whether the third meeting of the Indo-Canada Working Group on counter- terrorism was held recently;

(b) if so, the details of issues discussed and the outcome thereof;

(c) the other positive achievements of this meeting;

(d) whether any joint strategy has been evolved between the two countries to meet this threat; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Yes, Sir. The meeting was held in New Delhi on February 15-16, 2000.

(b) The two delegations met and reviewed the international security environment threatened by the growing menace of terrorism including narco-terrosim. They exchanged views on recent activities of various terrorist groups. . They expressed satisfaction at their ongoing cooperation in the area of counter-terrorism and agreed to enhance such cooperation bilaterally as well as in multi-lateral forums;

(c) The delegations expressed their conviction that terrorist acts are criminal acts and could not be justified for political, ideological, religious or any other reasons;

(d&e) The Working Group provides the forum for continued consultation and cooperation between the two countries to combat the menace of terrorism.
