Question : IRON ORE RESERVES FOR MINING



(a) the details of the known reserves of iron ore in Chhattisgarh State;

(b) the number of reserves out of them, reserved for the public sector undertakings of Union Government and those reserved for the State Government;

(c) whether the Union Government has received applications for reservation of the iron ore reserves in favour of certain State Government public sector undertakings; and

(d) if so, the date on which these applications were received and the time by which these are likely to be approved?

(a)&(b): As per information made available by State Government of Chhattisgarh, the total known reserves of iron ore in Chhattisgarh State is 2195 million tonnes . The details of deposits are as follows:

5.	Durg	Dalli-Rajhara	The iron ore deposits of erst-while Bastar district (Dantewada/Jagdalpur/Kanker), Durg district and Rajnandgaon district are reserved for public sector undertakings under the Government of India.


(c) Yes, Sir.

(d): Ministry of Mines has received two proposals on 15th February, 2002 and 28th January, 2003 for reservation of iron ore in the State of Chhattisgarh. Ministry of Mines has not taken any decision in the matter for want of certain information from the State Government of Chhattisgarh.
