Question : Ethnic Violence

(a) whether a number of group clashes occurred in some districts of Assam since 2013;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the amount of loss/damage due to these clashes;

(d) whether the victims of the said clashes took shelter in relief camps;

(e) if so, the details of the camps and the total number of victims in these
shelters; and

(f) the present status of rehabilitation of such victims?

(a) to (f): As per report, during the elections to the Panchayats held in 2013 in Goalpara district group clashes took place wherein seven persons died and more than 10,000 persons took refuge in the relief camps setup by State Government. The State Government had provided ex-gratia payment of Rs.5 laksh to the next kin of those died and compensation of Rs.50,000/- to injured persons. Food and medical facilities etc. were also provided to the inmates who were staying the relief camps. All inmates since returned to their native place/villages and all relief camps were wound up.
