Question : MODERNISATION OF EPF ORGANISATION SCHEME



(a) whether the Government propose to modernise E.P.F. Organisation/scheme and contemplating to introduce Smart Card for EPF beneficiaries all over the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the same is likely to be done;

(c) the States in which modernisation/smart card scheme is likely to be introduced at the first level;

(d) whether the old age income security protection is available at present only to 10 per cent of the estimated working class population; and

(e) if so, the steps taken by the Government to bridge the huge gap?

(a) & (b): Employees Provident Fund Organisation has proposed to modernize its organization/schemes. It involves reengineering of the existing work process, re-tooling of accounting systems and setting up of information technology/computer enabled system through networking of the offices of Employees Provident Fund Organisation. It also envisage providing all services to every member from any EPF location on a real-time basis.

(c): The first phase of the modernization programme involves setting up of pilot centres at the following locations:-

West Zone	-	Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan.	East Zone	-	Bihar	North Zone	-	Haryana
South Zone	-	Hyderabad & Mangalore


(d): As on 31.3.2001, there are 259.7 lakh members of the fund and 9.37 lakh pensioners.

(e): Performance monitoring system support enrollment of additional eligible workers within the frame work of EPF & MP Act, 1952.
