Question : WORLD BANK ASSISTANCE FOR SCHOOLS



(a) whether World Bank has provided assistance during each of the last three years for opening primary schools in tribal/rural areas of the country;

(b) if so, the details of such assistance received during the above period and the number of schools set up, State/UT-wise; and

(c) the number of schools proposed to be opened during next two years with the assistance of World Bank, State/UT-wise?

(a) to (c): Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a national flagship programme, is being implemented through out the country including tribal/ rural areas. The World Bank provides partial financial assistance for implementation of SSA as sector wide support, which means that funds are available as a consolidated resource pool, and not as component specific investment.Funds are received by the Central Government from the World Bank on reimbursement basis.The World Bank has reimbursed Rs. 2736.16 crore during the last three years. The State-wise details of number of schools opened during the last three years is given in Annexure.
