STATEMENT
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 130* FOR ANSWER ON 10.02.2022 REGARDING ‘USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN URBAN PLANNING’ :
(a) and (b): Yes sir. Urban development including urban planning is a State subject. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs supports States/ Union Territories by issuing advisories, design standards and schematic interventions for optimal use of technology for integrated urban planning. Ministry has issued design & standard documents for formulation of Geographic Information System (GIS) based Master Plan for cities selected under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), through remote sensing technology and ‘Application of Drone/ Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Technology’ for formulation of GIS based Master Plan in small and medium towns.
Under AMRUT, ‘formulation of GIS based Master Plan’ has been approved as a 100% centrally funded sub-scheme and is being implemented in 456 towns from 35 States/ UTs. Draft GIS database has been created for 446 towns, out of which final GIS database has been created for 313 towns. Draft GIS Based Master Plans have been formulated in 230 towns, out of which final GIS Based Master Plans have been approved in 101 Towns.
