Question : RECRUITMENT IN PRASAR BHARATI



(a) whether the Government has proposal to cut flab in public broadcasters Doordarshan and All India Radio;

(b) if so, the details in this regard;

(c) whether the Prasar Bharati Corporation has urged the Government to allow recruitments on crucial posts;

(d) if so, the details in this regard and the number of posts vacant in Prasar Bharati Corporation; and

(e) the response of the Union Government thereon?

(a),(b)&(c): The Expenditure Reform Commission (ERC) in its Report on Prasar Bharati had inter alia stated that transmitters are overstaffed by international standards. It was also recommended that posts lying vacant in Prasar Bharati should be identified and abolished. However, Prasar Bharati does not agree. On the contrary Prasar Bharati has been recommending the creation of some additional posts to facilitate the commissioning of new installations set up by Doordarshan and AIR.

(d) Prasar Bharati has reported that there are 4693 vacancies in All India Radio. As far as Doordarshan is concerned, a shortage of 4616 persons has been reported.

(e) The Government is committed to commissioning of all the installations of Prasar Bharati and their smooth running.
