Question : WORLD BANK MEETING ON SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN



(a) whether the World Bank has insisted on the participation of the Government in the internal meetings on some components of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA);

(b) if so,the details thereof;and

(c) the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) to (c): The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA),is an ongoing programme of Government of India (GOI) for universalising elementary education,which receives partial assistance from the World Bank.

During negotiations for the financial agreement with the World Bank,the latter did express a desire to participate as observers in the quarterly financial reviews conducted by Government of India with State officials.This was not accepted by the Government of India.
