(a) & (b): Yes. Facility Based Newborn Care is an important strategy to reduce neonatal mortality under
the Reproductive and Child Health programme (RCH II) of the National Rural Health Mission.
It is proposed to establish Special New Born Care Units (SNCUs) in every district hospital of the country. At present,
there are 293 SNCUs operational in the country. State-wise details are annexed. Under NRHM funds are allocated to the
States for setting up SNCUs.
