(a) to (b) 54 percent of the Indian population is in the working age group. While the population of the rest of the world is ageing, India will continue to have a young population for the next 20 years. India has a window of opportunity to reap its demographic dividend. Therefore, India has the potential to not only meet its own skill requirements but also the requirements of the rest of the world. With “Start-up India” and “make in India” measures, India must become a nation of job creators instead of being a nation of job seekers.
With a view to equip youth with skills to make them employable overseas, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to collaborate on implementing the Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Under this scheme, 15 “India International Skill Centres” have been established in key migratory pockets of the Country on pilot basis on the occasion of World Skills Day on 15th July, 2016. The trainings imparted in these Centres are of International Benchmark standards apart from compliant to Qualifications Packs (QPs) and National Occupation Standards (NOSs) aligned to National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) with options for Pre-departure orientation and soft skills training. In addition, MOUs have also been signed with United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar in the areas of mutual recognition of qualifications.
