Question : NEW RAILWAY LINES IN MAHARASHTRA



(a) whether the Government have conducted any survey for the construction of new railway lines or modernization of existing railway lines in Maharashtra during 1998-99 and 1999-2000;

(b) if so, the details of such railway lines;

(c) whether the Government have examined all the survey reports; and

(d) if so, the response of the Government in this regard ?

(a) to (d): The following surveys for construction of new lines and for gauge conversion has been conducted in Maharashtra during 1998-99 and 1999-2000. The position of each is indicated below:-

1. Wadsa-Armori- New Line 75 Km Report under Gadchiroli examination.

2. Kalyan-Murbad- New Line 204 Km Project could not Ahmednagar be taken up due to constraint of resources and inadequate traffic potential as revealed in the survey.
3. Puntamba/Kopergaon- New Line 16.6 Km Work of Puntamba- Shirdi Shirdi New Line sanctioned.
4. Pachora-Jamner GC Gauge 104 Project could not with extension up Conversion be taken up due to to Ajanta caves constraint of resources and inadequate traffic potential as revealed in the survey.
5. Manmad-Dhule New Line 98 Km Project could not be taken up due to constraint of resources and inadequate traffic potential as revealed in the survey.
6. Purna-Akola- Gauge 625 Work of Purna-Akola Khandwa-Ratlam- Conversion Gauge Conversion Mhow has been included in Budget 2000-01. The remaining routes would be considered in the coming years as per availability of resources.
