Question : Standard of Medical Education

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has taken note of lack of quality in medical education being provided in various parts of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken steps/proposes to take steps to improve the standard of medical education; and

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken thereon?

(a) to (d): The Medical Council of India (MCI) is the statutory body responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards in medical education. For this purpose MCI causes the assessment of every medical college on a year to year basis. Further a common Entrance Test namely National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has been introduced from this year, for admissions to undergraduate and post graduate courses.
