(a) whether the Government extends special industrial package for the development of the industry in the industrially backward States;

(b) if so, the names of the States presently covered under this package ;

(c) whether several State Governments including the State Government of Maharashtra have requested the Union Government for special industrial package;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the names of the States to whom the special industrial package has been granted alongwith the details in each case?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 169 FOR ANSWER ON 26.03.2012 BY SHRIMATI INGRID MCLEOD AND SHRI DHARMENDRA YADAV REGARDING INDUSTRIAL PACKAGE:

(a),(b)&(e): The Government is providing special industrial package for the development of industry in the industrially backward States as follows:

# Special Package for the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand;

# North-East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) 2007 for the North Eastern Region and Sikkim (for the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim) ;

# Transport Subsidy Scheme for 8 North Eastern States including Sikkim and for the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Darjeeling district of West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.

(c)&(d): Many other States have also requested for similar package, It has, however, been the consistent stand of the Government not to extend or announce any fresh package in view of the reason that the afore-mentioned special category states have adverse geographical locations and other specifications.
