Question : SETTING UP OF NEW ENGINEERING COLLEGES

(a) whether the Government has taken/proposes to take any steps at the Central level to set up engineering colleges in the country including Uttar Pradesh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government has received any requests from the public representatives also in this regard?

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) the action taken/ proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard; and

(f) the time by which these colleges are likely to be set up?

(a)to(f): The Government has set-up 10 new National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in the country including the State of Goa (also catering to the needs of Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli & Lakshadweep). One NIT is already functioning in the State of Uttar Pradesh namely Motilal Nehru National Institutes of Technology. The Government has also approved setting up 20 new IIITs in the country on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. The location of new IIITs depends upon the response of the State Governments and interest shown by private partners.
