Question : ELECTRICITY TO VILLAGES UNDER RGGVY



(a) whether the Government proposes to introduce any supplementary scheme under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) for electrification of villages in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time limit for electrification of villages in these States, State-wise?

(a) & (b) : The Government of India has approved continuation of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) for XII Five Year Plan in September 2013 with the aim to cover un-electrified census villages and the habitations having population above 100, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu. Under the scheme, 273 projects as proposed by the respective State Governments, have been sanctioned in the financial year 2013-14, covering electrification of 12,468 un-electrified villages, intensive electrification of 2,31,935 electrified villages and release of free electricity connections to 1.33 crore BPL households.

(c) : As per RGGVY guidelines, the scheduled period of completion of electrification works sanctioned under XII Plan, is 24 months from the date of award of the contract by the respective Implementing Agencies.
