Question : Metro Rail Service

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to provide Metro Rail Service to the cities like Kanpur, Agra and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh keeping in view the heavy traffic;
(b) if so, the cities in UP where this service is likely to be provided; and
(c) the time by which the said work is likely to be completed?

(a) : Urban transport is intertwined with urban development, which is a State subject. Initiation and planning of urban transport projects including Metro Rail Services is done by the respective State/Union Territory (UT). The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of Kanpur & Varanasi Metro projects submitted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh have been returned with request to review the DPRs in line with provisions in Metro Rail Policy, 2017 and resubmit accordingly.

(b) & (c): The Government of India has approved Metro Rail Projects for the cities of Lucknow and Noida-Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. An elevated portion of 8.5 km from Transport Nagar to Charbagh of Lucknow Metro is operational from 05.09.2017 and the scheduled completion date of this project is March, 2019. The scheduled completion date of Noida-Greater Noida Metro

Rail project is April, 2018. In addition, extensions of Delhi Metro to Noida City Centre and Vaishali are in operation. Extensions of Delhi Metro from Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden and from Noida City Center to sector 62, Noida in Uttar Pradesh are under construction.
