Question : INDIANS WORKING IN US CAMPS IN AFGHANISTAN



(a) whether the Government is aware that four thousand Indians are working in painful conditions in the American military camps situated in Afghanistan;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has formulated any plan to get them back to India; and

(d) if so, the details thereof ?

(a) & (b) The Indian Mission in Kabul has informed that there is no formal Information available with them about Indian workers recruited to serve the United States Army and living In painful conditions in United States military bases in Afganistan. However, the Indian Mission in Kabul has come to Know through informal channels that some of the Indian workers employed in US bases are not happy about the lack of telephone facilities to call home, lack of Indian food In the base kitchen and the stringent limitations on their freedom of movement outside the bases enforced by the base authorities because of the precarious security situations in Afganistan.

(c) & (d) No request for repatriation has been received.
