Question : Expansion Plan of AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the average number of patients visiting AIIMS OPD on each day, department-wise;

(b) whether the Government has approved expansion plan for AIIMS trauma centre and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether DDA has allotted land to AIIMS for expansion including trauma centre, if so, the details thereof;

(d) the time by which the expansion plan is likely to be completed and operationalised; and

(e) the other steps taken by the Government for upgradation of the country''s premier health institute?

STARRED QUESTION NO. 219* FOR 11TH MARCH, 2016


(a) 16.60 lakh patients have visited AIIMS OPD since July 1, 2015 till March 08, 2016. Nearly 10,000 patients visit AIIMS, New Delhi, every day. Data on average number of patients visiting AIIMS OPD, department-wise is not being maintained.

(b) to (d) DDA has allotted 14.95 acres of land next to the JPN Apex Trauma Centre to AIIMS, New Delhi. Expansion of various facilities including Trauma Centre at this piece of land is under consideration.

(e) Some of the steps taken by the Government for upgradation of AIIMS, New Delhi include setting up of National Cancer Institute; a new Mother & Child Block; a new OPD Block; and a new Hostel Block.
