MINISTER OF STATE FOR COAL AND MINES (SHRI RAVI SHANKAR PRASAD)
(a) The gross calorific value of lignite ranges between
2600-2800 kilocalories/Kgs. Lignite cannot be equated even
with lower grades of non-coking coal in terms of calorific
value due to its high moisture content and much lower fixed
carbon content.
(b) The prices of coal as fixed by Coal India Limited and
Singareni Collieries Company Limited are given in the
Annexure. The net price (Ex-Plant Neyveli) of Lignite
fixed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited is Rs.900.64
per tonne.
(c) Various prices of coal and lignite are fixed by the
respective companies based on their cost of production,
market conditions and commercial considerations.
(d) Does not arise in view of (c) above.
