(a) & (b): Airports Authority of India (AAI) possess approximately 55800 acres of land all over India, which is under use for safe and secure airport operations and there is no surplus land.;

(c): As per the provisions of AAI Act, use of land by Authority is restricted to discharge of its functions related to airports. ;

(d) to (f): The National Civil Aviation Policy, 2016 envisages to unlock the potential of land by liberalising the end-use restrictions for existing and future airports. In compliance with the provisions of NCAP, Ministry of Civil Aviation has already initiated amendment to the AAI Act to enable AAI for carrying out any activity at AAI airports in its best interests. Further, AAI has also identified land for city side development of airports at Lucknow, Raipur, Tirupati, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, Kolkata and Amritsar in phased manner and has commenced construction of multi level car park with commercial facilities at Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Calicut, Jaipur and Amritsar. AAI has also published request for proposal for construction of hotels at Amritsar, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata Airports on 07.07.2017.;

(g): Out of the overall land belonging to AAI in the country, around 1.4%, which is approximately 798 acres of land area is under encroachment by slum dwellers and other habitants. The details of encroachment of land at various airports in the country, State/UT-wise are at Annexure. The majority of land area under encroachment is around Mumbai and Juhu Airports which is inhabited by slum dwellers. Further, around 127 acres of land area at Bhopal Airport and 119.82 acres of land area at Hyderabad Airport is also under encroachment. M/s Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL) has entered into a State Government Support Agreement with the Government of Maharashtra in order to remove the encroachment from airport land in co-ordination with Airports Authority of India (AAI). In case of Bhopal Airport, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh has agreed to exchange 96 acres of land with AAI and provide an alternate site for the remaining land area. In case of Hyderabad Airport, the land matters are sub-judice. The process of rehabilitation of illegal occupants is a subject matter of the concerned State Govt. and the role of AAI and other private operators is limited to assistance and persuasion. Nonetheless, AAI has undertaken all efforts in active manner to co-ordinate with the concerned State Governments to remove such encroachments.
